Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Africa Strategy Launch

Description

We were honored to participate in the launch of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Africa Strategy, held at the Movenpick Hotel on Friday, May 10, 2024. The IRM Global Board from the United Kingdom graced the event to unveil the IRM Africa Strategy, marking a significant milestone in our continent’s journey towards better risk management and sustainable development.

Africa faces numerous challenges, including rising conflicts, climate shocks, pervasive poverty, and substantial external debt. However, the continent also possesses immense opportunities. Africa is endowed with abundant natural resources, which can enhance fiscal sustainability. Additionally, it boasts the fastest-growing working-age population and a youthful demographic, with a total population of approximately 1.4 billion people. These factors collectively present vast potential for economic and social prosperity.

As risk professionals, we were asked a critical question: Is Africa safe with us? Our role is crucial in ensuring the continent’s resilience and growth. We must leverage our expertise to navigate the complexities of these challenges while capitalizing on the opportunities. This involves implementing robust risk management frameworks, fostering a culture of proactive risk awareness, and advocating for policies that mitigate risks and enhance stability.

Our role as Risk Professionals is to ensure that Africa thrives and prospers. By embracing innovative risk management strategies and collaborating across sectors, we can safeguard the continent’s future. The development of Africa hinges on our commitment to excellence in risk management. Together, we can transform potential risks into opportunities, driving sustainable growth and securing a prosperous future for all Africans.
